Fall Fashionably

As we know it, August is officially the last month of summer.
Have you checked out your wardrobe which of your fall wear needs updating or, needs new additions? Whichever your case is, it always pays to start scouting early for fashionably chic fall wear.

And today, I am specifically featuring Angela of Windy City Knits.
Why Windy City Knits? Because her designs are classic, stylish and enduring – you’ll never go wrong with them. Not forgetting quality and workmanship, nothing beats handmade quality from the heart!

For fall, I always love mixing browns with red accents, and Windy City Knits have just THE perfect shade of red infinity cowl scarf ($20) and THE most adorable red fingerless mitten gloves ($22)! Here, I have styled with mochalicious shades of Helmut Lang’s asymmetrical top, throw over a Donna Karan drape wool jacket with Maxmara trousers that cuts off at the ankle, and finishing it off with Michael Antonio’s red suede booties.

You can also find that same chic cowl in smooth delicious honey caramel ($20). In fact, you can have it your favorite color, just ask Angela.

I adore this rich indigo cowl ($30) in pretty scallops and patterned texture!
Definitely would add a touch of femininity with your black or dark brown leather jacket – gives the ironic contrast.

I couldn’t resist doing another style board featuring Windy City Knit’s avocado green cowl ($32) – it’s so princess like, and green is my favorite color! It has a drawstring knitted cord that is just too cute! Styling alongside is Fabiana Filippi asymmetric sleeve sweater in light taupe, Sheinside high waist skirt (I know, the highlight of this skirt is the high waist but its covered by the sweater… I simply love the overall shape and color of the skirt), gorgeous Ralph Lauren brown leather boots, AND throw in a sweet knitted bracelet ($10) with sparkling beads and a dream charm!

There’s even a knitted bracelet in red and parisian charms ($10)! Ooh-la-la!

So click on down to Windy City Knits and start preparing your wardrobe for fall!

Signature Style

How have you all been for the 2 weeks we have been away from the blogging world?

Yes, hello :)
Back from much beading, catching up with tasks from our Etsy shop, negotiating with new avenues, and what not.

During which, thoughts of what signature style would I love to personify became my pet project in my mind. Something fuss free but yet iconic enough for people to recognize me for. And here is what I deem would be me and something I could deal with for the rest of my life through all unending changing trends – this would be me, always.

Hairstyle
I don’t I will ever have the patience to keep my hair long again.
The last time I had long hair, it was at my butt and I was 18.
And I am the kind that have no patience to go for or D.I.Y hair treatments for long hair.
So here are two picks that are evidently from the WWII period.
I love the short length and the feminine bangs to it. Works great both loose and combed back.

Style of Clothing
Most of the times, I really don’t want to get into the motion of deciding what to wear.
I tend to be wearing a “uniform” of my own, while I love to style others.
Black, charcoal, white, brown, cream, the occasional red fill my wardrobe palette.
However, what stylization shall it be?
As a child, I have always loved the cheongsam. Feminine, sultry yet strong.
Although it is of my race’s origin, I did not grow up seeing anyone wear it fashionably.
I currently own one red mod Song & Kelly silk cheongsam dress, and two silk cheongsam blouses in authentic peony embroidered motifs ~ one jet black and the other royal blue.
When I watched In the Mood for Love, my love cheongsam rekindled! The high collared cheongsams were to die for. And I love Shanghai Tang‘s mod take as well!
I will wear them with sleek pencil pants even if its a dress since the slits on the sides are high, it would do good for some modesty and easy leg movement.

Creating the Gait
How a pair of shoes arches, and how tall the heels affect how one gaits.
Flat pumps makes me feel relaxed and motherly.
But when I work, a pair of good stilettos never fail to imbue a sense of control within me.

What do you think of my signature style?
And what would you love for your own signature style?

I hope you all enjoy my comeback post!

Extract:
The title of the post has two parts and two meanings. The first is the fact that while I blend into the white walls on the pics – the yellow jeans serve as a nice contrast. Plus coloured jeans are very now.

Style: A Zen Noir

Okay, the Monday’s moodiness got me this time.
But maybe that’s because I work up at 8.45am after 5 hours of sleep and working without stop till now – it’s almost 11pm. But its the part of the day where I enjoy most, styling for you :)  And for this week, I’ll be running primarily on a Japanese-designed theme.
(Thank YOU Mari, baci!)

Japan was my childhood playground. Due to the fact that my family ran a shipping business which had its principal office in Osaka, thus the frequent trips back and forth regardless of school schedule. As a child, I experience growing up very differently from most of my schoolmates – enjoying the company of adults, being pampered by their wives, adoring the quaint villages and farms, having fun at Disneyland and novel amusement parks, enamored by Takarazuka Revue performances, eating fresh strawberries by the crates, the cherry blossoms, the deer parks, the memory list goes on. I miss Japan terribly, and ache for the abandoned Fukushima animals < please click here to do your bit with your voice

*Back to reality*

Today, I’ll be featuring Yohji Yamamato because his clothes resonates my mood now. Feeling the want of being protected from the world’s prying eyes – strong yet soft, simple but with depth, masculine but exuding out the rawness of femininity.

“When I started making clothes for my line Y’s in 1977, all I wanted was for women to wear men’s clothes. I jumped on the idea of designing coats for women. It meant something to me – the idea of a coat guarding and hiding a woman’s body. For me, a woman who is absorbed in her work, who does not care about gaining one’s favor, strong yet subtle at the same time, is essentially more seductive. The more she hides and abandons her femininity, the more it emerges from the very heart of her existence. A pair of brilliantly cut cotton trousers can be more beautiful than a gorgeous silk gown.” Yohji Yamamoto – extract from The Limelight

Let the zen noir speak for herself with a soul-wrenching piece by famous cellist/composer, one of our favorites, Hajime Mizoguchi ( 溝口肇 ) – was very hard to find a video of his to embed, so I hope you all will enjoy it. Watch for his kitty at the of the video ~ XO JR

Style: Thursday means Weekend Preview

The current topic is all about the MET Gala. Its on almost every fashionista blog with tongues wagging away about ‘Who is the best dressed?’, ‘Who is the worst dressed?’.
Personally, I can only say there is a loooooong list of ‘worst dressed’ (Marc Jacobs, Kristen Stewart, Gywneth Paltrow, etc) and only one personality ‘best dressed’ walking the red carpet - Camilla Belle.

She has or someone has obviously understood her body well enough to have chosen to wear a dress that not only flatters her curves in the right places but also the tone of her complexion. The jewelry pieces are tastefully matched with the tone of style, coupled with the sexy Gatsby hairstyle and dark rich color palette on her face. Overall, sublime.

But I am not going to dwell into this whole furore as the rest of the world carries on with the usual hum-drum of life, and that is you, you and you out there reading this post :)
For we continue to explore the myriad styles we can afford for everyday wear, and put our best style down the ‘concrete carpet’ while being coherently trendy!

Alright then, Wednesday was Painter’s Blouse, what white shirt can we don to set the mood for Thursday – a preview to an exciting weekend without being too conspicuous lest envious eyes prey on you and try to ruin your plans *touch wood* lol!

I am going with this collarless silk shirt from ThreeLittleDucks, $140. I love the simplicity of its cut, the seamless flow of form that creates a breathable fit on the body. It works great at work and at school.

Style: Today I am a Painter

Onward with the “White Shirt” series, what shall we be for Wednesday?
I always feel Wednesday is THE day that one can tone down and relax a little with the atmosphere. Allocate tasks to the others, expand yourself through others – work smart!

So how can the white shirt look smart yet relaxed?
I found this painter shirt by Elizabeth and James very nicely cut and the textile falls nicely on the body to create a lovely form – not too baggy, great for movement and one doesn’t need to worry about ‘pop goes the weasel’ after a hearty lunch!
I also love it for its thick cuffs and signature painter batwings – great for any body type ;)

Am going with purple palette for tomorrow – soothing to the eye, yet still vibrant and exciting to the senses. What do you think?

Style: Revving Up the momentum

I’ve noticed its been quite a moody Monday for most people I see out there, a psychological Monday blues thing or is it just too much partying over the weekend? ;)

I do hope you lovelies reading this will have a good Monday or had a good Monday start to the week :D

I did not get my usual 7 hours sleep, I lost 2.5 hours of sleep because both my kitties were crying scared of the howling wind and my dearest Richard had Major Snore visiting… yes, I woke up grouchy but I fought that demon to get my equilibrium on track before my fuse fused ~ begone you Monday demons, take that, HAH!
